Pelican Flight Training

Flight Training

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulates all aspects of civil aviation within the United States. As a certified flight training school, we work within the FAA’s rules to bring our students from zero flight time to the hours and requirements necessary to obtain a job as an Airline Pilot. Additionally, our programs are in line with the principles and techniques codified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

There are two main types of programs: Part 61 and Part 141. Both meet the minimum requirement for pilot training and certifications, with the main difference based on your goals after completing flight school.

Part 61 courses have more flexibility in their structure and is a good option for hobbyists. Part 141 courses provide a more intensive training that includes a higher level of coursework. Part 141 programs are designed for students that want to pursue a career in aviation upon graduation.

At Pelican, we certified by the FAA to offer both Part 61 and Part 141 courses.

As a further benefit to our students, we have taken the extra effort to earn accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) for our Professional Pilot Program for both Airplanes and Helicopters.

What Accreditation Means

Many Flight Training schools do not pursue accreditation, but only certification by the FAA. While that is the only requirement, we’ve found that the best way to ensure our students’ goals are achieved is by taking it a step further.

Being accredited by the ACCSC validates our academic rigor and establishes eligibility for our students to pursue financial aid from federally funded programs. This gives them more opportunities to focus on what matters most: gaining the experience needed to become a commercial pilot. The ACCSC regularly undertakes a thorough review of all of our courses to ensure that our school maintains a comprehensive program that provides students the technical skills to pursue a career in the aviation industry.

Going the Extra Mile

Our accreditation also helps our graduates. Employers know the difference that accreditation provides and thus this status allows our students to have further advantages when entering the field. If you want to learn more about accreditation and why it matters, please visit the ACCSC’s website.
